Peter's HQ GTS coupe

The Monaro Coupe started life as a 6 cyl LS model. In 1993 it was fully rebuilt to GTS specifications, not just a dash and steering wheel but a shell up rebuild. Unfortunately the then owner became very ill and the car sat in a farm shed for 10 years. In 2004 the previous owner spotted it and purchased it for a very reasonable price, put in a new battery and drove it for a couple of years. I then purchased her in early 2007, flew to Dubbo and drove her back to Melbourne. Apart from the windscreen wipers and electrics dying in the torrential rain, there was a loud bang along the way. We could not find anything at the time but on returning to Melbourne discovered that the upper windscreen mould was missing. Perhaps the rarest item to find on and HQ Coupe!

The vehicle has since had a full restoration including, 253 to 308 engine, auto to rebuilt M20 manual, full interior trim, new suspension and tires all round. The diff and LSD was rebuilt by Driveline and runs 3.08 gears. I have a set of 3.36 gears in the garage. The engine modifications have been done to retain the original look of the engine bay. I have the original wheel arch and sill trim to fit and the exterior is complete. The interior needs the dash redone and the engine is due for a new carb and 355 stroker bottom end. I was looking for a car that I could build with the options I wanted so didn’t want one that was too original as I would feel obliged to keep it to factory spec.

The intention is to have an original looking GTS car that will perform well at club events such as track days, drag racing, dyno days and hill climbs.
